| Special fields of the Marine Structure & Plant Research Department lies on core engineering technologies of offshore structures and plants which are indispensible for ocean spaces and resources development and also on design and performance evaluation of offshore facilities for ocean energy and ocean water development. Fundamental technologies are closely related with analyses of environmental loads and responses of offshore structures, and techniques for controlling ocean environmental conditions such as waves, currents and winds. Currently. the department endeavors for the national and such as "Development of Engineering Technologies for Floating Offshore LNG Terminal (FSRU)", "Analysis technologies of extreme responses of marine structures", "Development of wave energy utilization technology", "Development of wave energy converter using wave overtopping reef with spiral guide vanes", "WILS JIP (Wave Induced Loads on Ships Joint Industry Project)", "Multipurpose development of deep ocean water of the East Sea".
